Ong Ye Kung is the Deputy Secretary-General of National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). He oversees the Labour Movement’s employment and employability programmes and initiatives which include serving as the Chairman of Employment and Employability Institute Pte Ltd (e2i). He also holds the positions of Executive Secretary in the National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU), Singapore Manual and Mercantile Workers’ Union (SMMWU) and Singapore Industrial and Services Employees’ Union (SISEU). Mr Ong is also the Worker Centric Director and Mentor to Young NTUC.
Prior to joining NTUC, he was the Chief Executive of Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA). He spearheaded many initiatives to build up the Continuing Education and Training infrastructure for Singapore, and made training accessible to the individual worker, including contract workers and the unemployed. He also held several other positions in the Singapore Government, including that of Principal Private Secretary to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Deputy Chief Negotiator for the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.
Mr Ong sits on the Boards of SMRT Corporation Ltd, JTC Corporation, Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC), Alexandra Health System (AHS), NTUC Investment Co-operative Ltd (NIC) and NTUC LearningHub Pte Ltd (LHUB). He also serves on the Board of Governors of Northlight School. He is a member of Ngee Ann Polytechnic Council, a Trustee of the Singapore LSE Trust and Chairman of Workers’ Upgrading and Employment Committee of Chinese Development Assistance Council.
Mr Ong has a First Class Honours in B.Sc (Economics) from the University of London, London School of Economics and Political Science (UK) and a Master of Business Administration from the Institute of Management Development, Lausanne, Switzerland.
