As I follow the recent news, I feel grateful for many things in Singapore, and remind myself not to take things for granted.
Being prepared and resilient
The magnitude of Japan’s earthquake and the resulting tsunami was beyond expectations. It is sad to hear about the destruction and high death toll. But this would have been worse in countries without earthquake-ready infrastructure and people.
What is admirable is how people in Japan are trained to handle earthquakes and their strength and attitude in times of distress. Being resilient is a valuable survival trait, and I hope we gear ourselves to have preparedness and a steadfast attitude when we need to overcome our personal catastrophes.
