Labour Movement Champions Inclusive Growth In Productivity Drive Across All Sectors

The Labour Movement is launching a $40 million programme called the Inclusive Growth Programme (IGP) to drive productivity improvements. IGP is set to benefit 25,000 low wage workers over two years. The objective is to uplift workers’ skills, pay and lives across all 12 sectors identified by the National Productivity and Continuing Education Council (NPCEC).

Preparing Our Workers To Meet Changing Needs of The Manufacturing Landscape

The National Trades Union Congress’ (NTUC) e2i (Employment and
Employability Institute) and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency
(WDA) have jointly rolled out a slew of training programmes to sharpen the skills
of 500 managers and workers in manufacturing sectors, to drive productivity
improvement. The programmes are targeted at equipping workers with specific
deep skills.

More progress in Security and Landscaping sectors to make them “Cheaper, Better and Faster”

To support Singapore’s drive towards higher productivity and a “cheaper,
better and faster” economy, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) is
ramping up its efforts in the Job Re-creation Programme (JRP), which is targeted
at low wage workers. With the support of NTUC, companies in the security and
landscaping sectors have harnessed technology and introduced new initiatives to
raise their productivity and improve the employment terms of their workers.

e2i and ION Orchard to raise service standards of tenants through a pilot customised service course

Collaboration moves from meeting manpower needs to deepening of skills

e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) and Orchard Turn Developments, which manages the iconic ION Orchard shopping mall at the heart of Orchard Road, are collaborating again. This time round, the focus is to equip tenants with intuitive skills to understand the tourist segment, further raising the service standards of tenants in the shopping mall through a pilot run of a customised customer service course. The Service Excellence Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) course is targeted at service staff that have regular contact with tourists from China and India. The first class of 25 participants from 16 mall tenants such as Hugo Boss, Larry Jewellery and Omega will attend a two-day course on 29 and 30 March 2010.

NTUC’s e2i round up 2009 work achievements

Reached out to various segments of workforce, helped employers meet manpower needs and raised productivity

In 2009, NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) assisted a total of 64,500 workers. These assisted workers included 29,400 job seekers who were looking for new or better jobs, and 35,100 employed workers who upgraded their skills and improved their career prospects. In addition, e2i also rendered services to 463 companies and employers to meet their manpower needs, or to tap on Government -sponsored initiatives to boost job worth and productivity.

Recruitment drive to showcase life-size ward mock-up of Jurong General Hospital - a breakthrough in ward design with a “A Window for Every Patient” concept

e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) has started a programme to build up the pool of Singaporean workers that can drive heavy vehicles. They will then be matched to various employers to take up a range of jobs, such as driving tour buses, chartered buses, school buses, or delivery vans.
