Employability Camp for Back-to-Work Seniors
In view of an ageing population and the upcoming re-employment legislation in 2012, a two-day mindset change programme will be made available for back-to-work seniors to help strengthen the silver workforce. The Employability Camp (EC) for Back-to-Work Seniors will equip the silver population with "soft skills" to return to the workforce and is a customised version of the existing EC programme by NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute). The current EC is catered mainly for rank-and-file job-seekers who want to prepare themselves to take on new job opportunities and progress in their new careers.

More progress in Security and Landscaping sectors to make them “Cheaper, Better and Faster”
To support Singapore's drive towards higher productivity and a "cheaper,better and faster" economy, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) is ramping up its efforts in the Job Re-creation Programme (JRP), which is targeted at low wage workers. With the support of NTUC, companies in the security and landscaping sectors have harnessed technology and introduced new initiatives to raise their productivity and improve the employment terms of their workers.
At Borneo Motors (Singapore), APRO Asian Protection Pte Ltd (APRO) overcome the constraints of lack of manpower by using CCTV monitoring and the Fence Intrusion Detection System (FIDS) for their security operations. Using digital video recording, receivers and the Internet, the security agency can remotely view all the cameras placed at Borneo Motors' seven sites around Singapore, including the perimeter fence. APRO security officers went through relevant training to learn how to operate surveillance equipment.

e2i and ION Orchard to raise service standards of tenants through a pilot customised service course
Collaboration moves from meeting manpower needs to deepening of skills
e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) and Orchard Turn Developments, which manages the iconic ION Orchard shopping mall at the heart of Orchard Road, are collaborating again. This time round, the focus is to equip tenants with intuitive skills to understand the tourist segment, further raising the service standards of tenants in the shopping mall through a pilot run of a customised customer service course. The Service Excellence Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) course is targeted at service staff that have regular contact with tourists from China and India. The first class of 25 participants from 16 mall tenants such as Hugo Boss, Larry Jewellery and Omega will attend a two-day course on 29 and 30 March 2010.
