Workers’ Training An Important Pillar in NTUC
For the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) to continue to be the representative voice for our workers and a credible partner of the Government and employers, NTUC must build our collective strength by staying relevant to and representative of workers’ needs.
At the NTUC National Delegates’ Conference 2019, NTUC, together with our union leaders, have committed to innovate in three key areas of union model, membership model and training model, and underpinning all these will be the digitalisation drive. Particularly, training has been and will continue to be an important pillar in NTUC as this has a direct impact on workers’ employment and employability.
The Company Training Committee (CTC) is one of the initiatives by NTUC and the Labour Movement to help both workers and companies transform for the future.
First announced in February 2019, CTC involves union leaders working closely with management to
- understand the company’s strategic objectives and transformation plans,>
- identify and address skills gaps and training needs, and
- seize opportunities for companies to adopt new technologies for enhanced productivity.
The objectives of CTCs are therefore two-pronged – first, to help workers become Worker 4.0, which is defined by the Labour Movement as workers who are proficient in working with machines, using technology and tapping digital resources to be more productive at work; and second, to partner companies in their transformation towards Industry 4.0. Combined, these will help companies succeed and help our workers have better Wages, Welfare and Work Prospects.
