LTA signs MOU with e2i to support establishment and operations of the Singapore Rail Academy
Singapore Exchange (SGX) is partnering NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) to draw more Singaporeans to the stockbroking profession and equip new joiners with the necessary skills.
SGX and e2i will work closely with stockbroking firms to identify potential candidates to be licensed as brokers or Trading Representatives. These candidates will enroll in training programmes at SGX’s own school, SGX Academy, and will receive help with job placement. SGX Academy offers a range of programmes ranging from those for new investors to seminars for investing professionals including licensed brokers. In 2013, over 30,000 individuals attended SGX Academy’s 350 programmes.
e2i is an initiative of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), supported by the Workforce Development Agency (WDA), the Singapore Labour Foundation (SLF), and the Singapore National Employers’ Federation (SNEF). Since 2008, e2i has helped more than 200,000 workers through providing better jobs, developing better skills through professional development, and improving productivity for companies.
Under this new partnership, individuals seeking to enter the broking industry will join e2i’s “Screen-Train-Place-and-Train” programme which will co-fund their pre-job placement training and assist with placement opportunities at participating firms. The partnership is targeting 50 candidates in the pilot run.

This Screen-Train-Place-Train Programme offers yet another alternative pathway for locals who are keen to join the financial sector. We believe our efforts will help raise the quality of the sector’s workforce, as well as achieve e2i’s mission to create better employability and job opportunities for workers in Singapore,” Gilbert Tan, Chief Executive Officer of e2i.

Those joining this programme will benefit from a curriculum the industry has helped to design and aid in securing an appropriate position,” said Lynn Gaspar, Senior Vice President of SGX who oversees SGX Academy.
